Looking for screen repair in Reno?
Many Reno jobs start with something broken: a torn screen, a sliding screen door that has worn out, or a frame the wind finally bent. Screen repair is most of what Reno homeowners search for, and it is a big part of what we do. Rescreening puts new mesh in your existing frame. When the frame itself has failed, we build a new one to the measured opening. A sliding screen door with a good frame gets new mesh in it; otherwise we build a custom new door.
If you want sun control rather than a fix, solar screens and custom sliding screen doors are the other half of what we do. Either way, we come to the house, measure, and give you a quote before any work starts.

The oldest housing in the valley, and some of the newest
Reno is by far the biggest place we serve, with 123,756 housing units in the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 survey. It is also the oldest: 37.4% of those units were built before 1980, and 7,272 were built in 1949 or earlier, most of them in and around Midtown and the Old Southwest. Houses of that age often have window openings that do not match any stock screen size, so custom-measured screens are the practical answer.
On the other side of town, 35.6% of Reno's housing went up in 2000 or later, including the newer parts of Northwest Reno, while Caughlin Ranch climbs the western foothills. Those later houses bring wider sliders and more glass per wall, which is where solar screens earn their keep.
A city of renters and owners
Reno is split almost evenly: 49.8% of occupied homes are owner-occupied, and 40.6% of housing units sit in multi-unit buildings. Only 50.1% are single-family detached houses, one of the lowest shares of any area we cover. That shapes the calls. Apartment and rental owners mostly need screens rescreened and worn sliding screen doors rescreened or replaced. Homeowners are more likely to ask about solar screens for a hot west wall.

Heat, sun and a little altitude
The Reno-Tahoe airport station, at 4,410 feet, records 65 days a year at 90 degrees or above and 6 at 100 or above in NOAA's 1991-2020 normals. In the most recent ten years of daily readings (2016-2025) the count ran higher, averaging about 77 days at 90 or more, with a peak of 108 degrees on July 16, 2023.
The EPA's UV Index guide says UV rises about 2% for every 1,000 feet of elevation. Central Reno, at roughly 4,505 feet, is less than 100 feet above the airport, so the difference there is a fraction of a percent. Compared with sea level, though, the whole valley gets roughly 9% more UV by that rule of thumb, which helps explain how fast carpets and furniture fade behind unshaded west windows.
Why Reno screens wear out
The afternoon Washoe Zephyr comes in from the west, and Reno meets it first. NOAA's hourly normals put the average 2 to 6 p.m. wind at 13 to 13.4 miles an hour from April through July. Gusts are the real test: over 2016 to 2025 the airport logged a gust of 30 miles an hour or more on about 145 days a year. Loose screens flex and tear along the spline, and doors slam on their stops.

Pre-war houses in Midtown and the Old Southwest
Reno has 7,272 housing units built in 1949 or earlier and another 7,228 from the 1950s, far more older housing than any other area we serve. Much of it is in Midtown and the Old Southwest. Windows in houses of that era were often built on site, so two that look alike across a room can differ slightly in size, and some openings are no longer quite square.
That is why we measure every opening rather than one window and a count. A screen built to its own opening sits flat and stays in its clips. Our guide on how to measure window screens shows where the numbers come from, and the custom window screens page explains what we build.
Renters slightly outnumber owners
Reno is the one area on our list where renter households edge out owners: 57,365 rent and 56,957 own, in the Census Bureau's 2020-2024 count. Larger buildings account for much of that, with 20,781 units in buildings of 5 to 19 apartments, 19,071 in buildings of 20 or more, and 10,359 in duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes.
Rental screens see heavy use. Furniture goes in and out through the slider, pets lean on the mesh, and screens taken down for cleaning end up stacked in a garage. Owners and managers can see how we handle turnover work on our landlords and property managers page. For shared buildings, offices and storefronts, commercial solar screens cut glare on large panes.
Before you call: a two-minute screen check
A quick look tells you whether you need a repair or something new, and it makes the first phone call shorter.
- Press the mesh. If it tears or crumbles under a fingertip, the sun has weakened it and it needs rescreening.
- Check the corners. Loose or cracked corners on a straight frame can often be fixed; a bent frame usually means a new one.
- Look at the spline. The rubber cord that holds the mesh shrinks with age, and gaps along the edge let insects in.
- Roll the slider. A door that drags, jumps or scrapes is worn. If the frame is good it can be rescreened; otherwise a custom new door fits the opening.
- Count the openings. Note how many windows and doors need attention, so the quote covers the whole job.
Thinking of doing it yourself?
Some rescreening is a reasonable weekend project. Our guide to DIY versus professional rescreening covers when a home repair makes sense and when a new frame is the better route, and the glossary explains spline, mesh and frame terms.

Questions
Reno screen questions
Do you do screen repair in Reno or only new screens?
Both. We rescreen torn mesh, build new frames for bent ones and make new custom screens, including custom sliding screen doors. We also install solar screens.
My older Reno house has odd-size windows. Can you still make screens?
Yes. Every screen is made to the size we measure at your home, so it does not need to match a stock size.
How far is Reno from you?
Central Reno is about 3.9 miles and 7 minutes from central Sparks, so it is part of our everyday area.
Do solar screens make sense if my Reno house has big shade trees?
Maybe not on every window. The EPA notes that structures and trees significantly reduce UV exposure, so a window that sits in shade all afternoon gains little. We usually start with the west and south glass that trees and eaves do not cover; ways to block sun compared covers the alternatives.
I manage a Reno apartment building. Can you handle many units?
Yes. We measure each opening on site and quote the job before any work starts, and the multi-window discount applies to larger orders. Call or text (775) 240-0418 to set up a visit.
Can you put a screen on a Reno window that has been missing one for years?
Usually, as long as the window has a frame or channel a screen can sit in. We measure the opening and build a custom window screen to fit it; if a window has no way to hold a screen, we tell you at the measure.
